Behold, The Power of the Programmers

Behold, The Power of the Programmers

hackerdojo_jobfair_jan10.jpgAn LA-based investor recently told us, “Northern California is hyper competitive for engineers and companies are always luring developers away from each other. Our community is smaller and no one wants to burn bridges. We’ve got lower staff turnover.” At first I was skeptical, but a recent story on Hacker News now has me convinced.

hacker_jobfair_jan10.jpgOn January 16, Bay Area developers will convene in Mountain View to stage the first “reverse job fair”. Hosted by tech community center Hacker Dojo, a group of well-established software engineers, testers and project managers will welcome potential employers to visit their booths and check out science fair-style presentations of their programming projects. While much of the documentation of these projects is available via GitHub and the developers’ personal websites, employers can ask candidates questions and get a feel for their personalities and interests. To attend the reverse job fair, you can sign up to the Google Group.

What Is The Final Official Documentation Of Marriage In New York?

In New York, as I understanding, a “Marriage License” is for persons who intend to get married; and a “Certificate of Marriage Registration” is the official document received after a marriage ceremony.
Does this mean that “Certificate of Marriage Registration” is the FINAL OFFICIAL documentation of marriage in New York? If not, could anyone provide me the full name of the final official documentation.
Thanks.

Apple documents iTunes LP and iTunes Extras for developers

Apple documents iTunes LP and iTunes Extras for developers

After seeing the intent by developers and artists to create iTunes LP and iTunes Extras for their music, Apple has opened up the availability to develop these features to third parties. However, automatic submission for iTunes LP and iTunes Extras is not expected until early 2010; in the meantime, it’s still a limited process and uploads must be performed manually.

If you’re an iTunes contributor and you’re looking forward to developing an iTunes LP of your own, Apple has posted several resources for Extras & LP, including a best practices guide, a development guide, asset delivery tips and a testing guide.

There’s also templates to get you started, and documentation on the TuneKit framework used by iTunes LP and iTunes Extras. These make extensive use of the WebKit framework, while using many new web standards.

Are you going to be more interested in these features since it’s now open for development? Let us know in the comments below!

New Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse show up in FCC database

New Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse show up in FCC database

We’ve been hearing a lot about a new mouse from Apple lately, and earlier today images and additional documentation about a new Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (using Bluetooth) showed up in the FCC database. The new keyboard has a model number of A1314, while the mouse has a model number of A1296. The dimensions of the new wireless keyboard are smaller than the current Apple Wireless Keyboard, particularly in the distance between the top and bottom of the keyboard. There are still few details on the new mouse at this point.

The FCC images were quickly pulled from the FCC database, then re-added later in the day with details cropped out, but they can still be found in all of their original glory over on our sister site Engadget.

HP’s iPAQ K3 Obsidian gets FCC approval enroute to AT&T

HP’s iPAQ K3 Obsidian gets FCC approval enroute to AT&T

Sure, we could beat around the bush and say, “well, the test report calls it an iPAQ and it’s got both GSM and HSPA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, so it’s probably headed to AT&T” — but let’s cut to the chase for once, shall we? Despite much of the documentation still falling under confidentiality, HP’s latest phone has “AT&T SKU” written right on its publicly-available ID label, so that pretty much settles that. Interestingly, the documentation repeatedly refers to the new WinMo-powered handset as the “iPAQ KB1,” but we have every reason to believe this is the K3 Obsidian that’s been floating around for a while now. To be fair, we don’t know whether that’s a go-to-market name — nor do we know the price or launch date, for that matter — whatever it’s called, we can now take comfort in the knowledge that it’ll be 100 percent legal to use on American soil.

New Sony VAIO P hits the FCC, arriving this fall?

New Sony VAIO P hits the FCC, arriving this fall?

A new model of Sony’s ultraportable VAIO P has just passed through the FCC, leading us to surmise that we can probably expect a new model in the very near future. Details are still exceedingly slim on this one, but we know that this one — model number PCG-1RSL — will be about the same size as the current VAIO P, and that it packs 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth. The documentation’s confidentiality expires in October, so we’ll know all the juicy details by then — if we haven’t already found out via other channels. Fingers crossed that it’s the ‘mark 2′ we heard about recently that could right some of those painful, painful wrongs.
