Netgear PTV1000 Push 2 TV WiFi video card hits the FCC

We’ve long said that wireless video streaming direct from a laptop is one of our dream gadgets, and while most of the gear we’ve seen is based on Wireless USB, it looks like Netgear’s trying something a little different: this PTV1000 Push 2 TV Adapter just hit the FCC database, and it looks to send video from your laptop to your TV over WiFi. It’s apparently built on an upcoming Intel standard called Wireless Display that requires a Core i3, i5, or i7 processor with integrated GMA graphics and Windows 7, but nothing’s been officially announced yet — and what little info we have isn’t great, as the docs warn users that Wireless Display is unsecured and won’t play all DVDs or Blu-rays. That’s not a huge problem, we suppose — all we want to do is beam a Hulu window to our TV simply and easily. We’re assuming we’ll find out a lot more at CES next week, stay tuned.

Gateway EC18T / Acer Aspire 1420P convertible tablet hits the FCC

We haven’t heard much about the Gateway EC18T since we saw all those leaked pics back in October, but it looks like things are starting to move: the convertible tablet just hit the FCC database, complete with some more external pictures. From all appearances, it looks like this one’s going to be a family affair, as the machine itself will be sold by Gateway parent company Acer as the Aspire Timeline 1420P, and the FCC docs indicate sister company Packard Bell will have a version as well. Badging aside, inside we’re looking at a 1.2GHz SU2300 Core 2 Duo with GMA 4500MHD graphics, up to 8GB of RAM, a 500GB max drive, an 11.6-inch screen, and an eight-hour battery life — so depending on price, this one could be pretty attractive. We’ll wait to see how long it takes before one version or another escapes the government and hits store shelves.

FCC starts up white spaces database, devices now inevitable
White space devices seem likely to play a major part in the FCC’s solution to the wireless spectrum crisis. Operating in the buffers between frequencies used by television broadcasts, these devices will be able to exploit TV’s airspace without interfering with the incumbent users’ traffic. The unlicensed utilization of white spaces has been approved going on for a year now, but really important government stuff has gotten in the way of making that vote a reality. It was only recently that Claudville, Virginia got the very first such network, and initial results show that it hasn’t disrupted any of the fine, fine programming percolating the local airwaves. The only issue we see is that your WSD will need to be capable of both identifying its own position by GPS and hooking up to the database to find out what bands it may use, but then it’s not like anyone sells smartphones without these capabilities nowadays, is it?

Mobinnova Beam Tegra smartbook hits the FCC en route to AT&T

Looks like AT&T will be launching at least two smartbooks at CES — the Tegra-powered Mobinnova Beam just hit the FCC database with a device ID of BEAMATT. Yeah, that’s not so subtle. Sadly the listing doesn’t have much else to say about the machine formerly known as élan, but we’re guessing we’ll find out way more about what AT&T’s got planned for these not-quite-netbooks in Vegas.

Samsung LTE USB modem winds up in FCC database

Samsung’s made some lofty boasts regarding its LTE support before, and here we go with some official documentation of US-bound products care of the FCC. The agency’s database lists device A3LSLCU100 (catchy name, eh?) as a pre-production LTE USB modem from the company — and that’s about it. As for the usual fun of looking at over-saturated internal / external photos, good ol’ Sammy’s got a window of 180 days of confidentiality that started September 24th, so by our count, we’ve got potentially quite a while before we see something. The best we get now is this label outline above — one more, equally nondescript shot after the break, if you’re curious.

Nokia’s 5230 inches closer to release, gets spied along the way

Nokia’s 5230 isn’t apt to blow any minds with the likes of the HD2, Droid and XPERIA X3 on the horizon, but for those perfectly content with a touchscreen-based Symbian S60 5th Edition handset, this one sure looks purty. After dipping its toes in the FCC’s expansive database just last month, a crop of new in the wild shots have surfaced to show off its 3.2-inch display (640 x 360), 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR module and variety of colorful backs. Hit the read link for more pixels if you’re so inclined, and feel free to take the “January 2010″ release date in with a dose of NaCl.

New Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse show up in FCC database

We’ve been hearing a lot about a new mouse from Apple lately, and earlier today images and additional documentation about a new Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (using Bluetooth) showed up in the FCC database. The new keyboard has a model number of A1314, while the mouse has a model number of A1296. The dimensions of the new wireless keyboard are smaller than the current Apple Wireless Keyboard, particularly in the distance between the top and bottom of the keyboard. There are still few details on the new mouse at this point.

The FCC images were quickly pulled from the FCC database, then re-added later in the day with details cropped out, but they can still be found in all of their original glory over on our sister site Engadget.

Sony Ericsson Satio arrives at the FCC

Well well, it looks like the mythical Sony Ericsson Satio is soon to go from beautiful fever-dream to actual reality — it’s popped into the FCC database with test results on GSM 850 and 1900, otherwise known as EDGE. Yeah, that sort of sucks, but we’re still holding out hope, since we don’t know the full story — it could be destined for a lame existence on AT&T, it could be sold unlocked, or it could be a Canadian or Latin American model. Seriously, though — it’s the Satio, and the government has one. You know what that means.
