Polk Audio’s HitMaster: your own personal Rock Band stage monitor
Polk Audio’s HitMaster: your own personal Rock Band stage monitor
Sheesh. Just days after Altec Lansing shocked the gaming world with a dedicated stage monitor for Guitar Hero, Rock Band or any other gaming title you’d care to pump through a mini-wedge, Polk Audio has stepped in to do the same. As we witness the beginning of a curious, um, beginning, the HitMaster has stepped things up for anyone else thinking of joining the fray by packing 60 watts of RMS power, a pair of 2.2- x 5.5-inch horns, twin 1-inch tweeters and a booming 6.5-inch subwoofer. The whole cabinet weighs some 13 pounds, and aside from line level inputs and outputs, you’ll also find a 1/8-inch jack for connecting iPods and the like. Oh, and did we mention that you can daisy chain these things? Because you can. Look for this one to rock your face off (or something to that effect) in early 2010 for $99.99.

Week in gaming: PSP Go is fail, Uncharted 2 is win
Week in gaming: PSP Go is fail, Uncharted 2 is win
![]()
This week saw our feature review of Sony’s newest handheld, the PSP Go, as well as previews of the new Ratchet and Clank game and some early thoughts on Uncharted 2. As if that wasn’t enough, we reviewed the new MotorStorm title on the PSP, and realized that Sony pretty much owned this week in news.
Here’s what the gaming world was talking about this week:
PSP Go review: Sony is charging you much more, for much less: The PSP Go has been released with a high price, little fanfare, and some puzzling design decisions. USB has been thrown out for a proprietary cabling solution, Pro Duo cards have been thrown out for another Sony-launched memory solution, and of course there is no longer a UMD slot. The argument? If you don’t like it, it’s not for you, man.
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time moves genre to the future: Ratchet and Clank hit the PlayStation 3 once again, but this time the beautiful graphics and smart writing have been mixed in with some clever time-moving game mechanics. We’ve played the first few hours of the game, and this is certainly one to watch.
Who gives a tweet about gaming? Uncharted 2’s stumble: Naughty Dog thought that incorporating Twitter into Uncharted 2 would be a good idea, but when the accounts of game writers started to look a little mechanical, the feature was quickly removed. Ars explores what went wrong, and how Twitter can be used well in the gaming world.
Standing up to expectations: the first hours of Uncharted 2: Why let Twitter stand in the spotlight, however, when we have our thoughts on the first five chapters on the game itself? Uncharted 2 looks to be the rare game that lives up to the hype, and then some. If you don’t have a PS3, you only have a short time to buy one, play the first game, and get ready for this. What are you waiting for?
MotorStorm on PSP wields ugly stick like a weapon: a review: It may not be the prettiest game in the world, but the PSP version of the popular MotorStorm series features thrillling tracks, a wide variety of vehicles, and online play. If you’re in the mood for some arcade-style racing, there are much worse ways to spend your time and money.
