ExoPC delayed till summer, getting specification upgrades to dull the pain

Now that the tablet PC revolution is upon us (for the second time in as many decades, if you’ll recall), there’s bound to be a few that really stick out, and a few that get left in the dust. ExoPC is doing its darnedest to be grouped in the former, and it’s choosing to hold off on rushing things out in hopes of delivering a superior product to the world this summer. If you’ll recall, we heard that the 8.9-inch slate would originally be out and about this month, but the company’s own Jean-Baptiste Martinoli has informed us directly why the ship date is being pushed back a few months. For starters, production has been shifted from China into Canada thanks to a freshly signed deal with CiaraTech. And if you’re wondering what you’ll get in return for waiting just a few more months to get your hands on one, we’ve excellent news. Here’s the good word straight from the outfit:

“With [CiaraTech's] help we are improving the specs: better processor, graphics, better battery life, thinner, better screen and touch panel. We should hit FCC soon. As we have more time we are adding more features in the ExoPC UI Layer (ex. an app / media store).”

We aren’t exactly big on waiting, but we’ll let that other tablet keep us company until this one finally gets its shipping papers. Summer ain’t too far out, now is it?

Sony to debut 3D BRAVIA TVs by end of 2010, also eyeing 3D VAIOs, Blu-ray films, and PS3 games?

The Financial Times has it on good word what the major unveil in Sony chief Sir Howard Stringer’s keynote tomorrow at IFA 2009 will, so much so that it’s quoting him with phrases he hasn’t even said yet. According to the report, the company is making a huge push into the third dimension, with 3D BRAVIA HDTVs hitting the retail channels by the end of 2010. Also on the menu is 3D-compatible PlayStation 3 titles (which we’ve kind of heard before), VAIO laptops, and Blu-ray movies, but it’s unclear from the article if they shares the same 2010 timeline. Polarized glasses will be required for use, but hey, just consider it a fashion statement. We’re now very anxious to see how close Sir Stringer sticks to this purported script for tomorrow’s big event.

Verizon rumored to be pushing up LTE plans to Q1 2010, new Apple device the catalyst?

So we already knew Verizon was looking to push LTE out the door and to about 20 to 30 markets in the second half of 2010, but Tech Crunch’s got it on good word that the company’s doing everything in its power to get the service ready to go in a number of areas in time for Q1 2010. That’s interesting in and of itself, but together with this morning’s whispers of Apple’s tablet coming early next year and past talk of an Apple / VZW partnership, and the tale gets exponentially more intriguing. As TC suggests, a tablet lacking voice service on the LTE network wouldn’t violate AT&T’s not-at-all permanent exclusivity. Its source said there was one LTE device, not a wireless card, that this early launch was being “specifically geared towards,” but even if so, that could apply to any number of other non-Apple gadgets (from Nokia, perhaps?). Of course, much of this is rumor built on rumor, so no matter how well these pieces might seem to fall in place — or how potentially awesome the idea might seem — there’s a large grain of salt you should be taking with you.

Microsoft almost definitely planning motion-sensing 3D camera for Xbox 360

If shots from the barrel of Mr. Blurrycam just aren’t legitimate enough for you, how’s about corroboration from The Wall Street Journal? A breaking report has confirmed that Microsoft is indeed “developing a new videocamera for its Xbox 360 videogame console that will allow players to control games with the movement of their bodies,” or at least that’s the good word from the all-too-supposing “people familiar with the matter.” It’s noted that unlike Nintendo’s Wii, the Microsoft camera won’t require gamers to “hold any hardware in their hands to control in-game action,” but in the same vein as The Big N, it seems as if the device will debut at E3 only to sit around in a lab for a year before shipping to consumers. Boo.
