Panasonic slips Core i5 into ‘world’s lightest’ 12.1-inch Toughbook C1 convertible tablet
Panasonic slips Core i5 into ‘world’s lightest’ 12.1-inch Toughbook C1 convertible tablet

We tell ya — all this tablet talk sure has us feeling like it’s 2003. You know, minus all that Y2K hangover stuff. Anywho, Panasonic has today outed what it’s calling the planet’s lightest 12.1-inch convertible tablet PC, with the Toughbook C1 offering the line’s iconic rigidity while boasting 10 hours of battery life, an optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband module and Intel’s decidedly potent 2.4GHz Core i5-520 processor. All told, the device weighs just 3.2 pounds with a single battery (3.7 pounds with twins), and there’s full support for digitizers and multitouch. Other specs include a shock-mounted, flex-connect 250GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, a WXGA (1,280 x 800) LED-backlit panel, a triple hinge design and the ability to survive a 30-inch plummet. It’s available to (quite literally) smash iPads starting this June, though that $2,499 starting price may be somewhat off-putting to those without copious amounts of disposable income.

Samsung hops on Atom N450 bandwagon with N210, N220, N150 and NB30 netbooks
Samsung hops on Atom N450 bandwagon with N210, N220, N150 and NB30 netbooks
Keeping the news flowing fast and furious, Samsung has come out with a quartet of new netbooks, distinguishable primarily by their battery life. The N210 and 220 take the lead with a purported 12 hours of “connected mobility,” while the NB30 (11 hours) and N150 (8.5 hours) are none too shabby either. The N150 differentiates itself with an “integrated hinge,” while the NB30 focuses on durability with a HDD protection sensor and a water-tight seal that protects the netbook from up to 50cc of water. Still, the machines do share a lot, including an Atom N450 at their heart, and a 10.1-inch anti-reflective screen, plus — you’d be better sit down for this — mark- and scratch-resistant casing. Does this mean the end of the fingerprint-loving netbook? We can only hope so. Full PR blurb after the break.

Motorola Backflip / Enzo bringing Android contortions to AT&T
Motorola Backflip / Enzo bringing Android contortions to AT&T
Just when we though this decade had run short on phone form factors, Motorola comes along to blow our minds with this new Backflip / Enzo / Motus device. Amazingly, the most interesting part of this device might not even be the reverse hinge design, which flips the keyboard back behind the screen and faces out when not in use, but the fact that there’s a clear-as-day AT&T logo on it — something we’d heard rumored, but dared not believe until we saw it with our own eyes. The rest of the leaked photos go on to corroborate earlier rumors: there’s a touchpad on the back of the keyboard to aid in no-look scrolling, it’s running Blur on top of Android 1.5 (with a few AT&T apps, Yahoo search and no Gmail), and it runs the same 528MHz processor as the CLIQ. Hard to believe this very same company builds the Droid.
[Thanks, Jeff B.]

WowWee Cinemin Swivel pico projector shocker: available now!

If you’re like us, you’ve been marking the days off until you could get WowWee’s Cinemin Swivel — or, the pico with attitude, as we like to call it. We’ve been keeping our eyes on it since CES 2009, so we can sympathize. Well, looks like the wait is over — it’s popped up on Amazon and we hear you can grab one up at Brookstone, too. The DLP pico, which boasts a 480 x 360 resolution, an adjustable 90-degree hinge (for projecting your Richard Marx video collection onto the ceiling) will run you around $299.

Dell’s Adamo ‘crazyhinge’ XPS demonstrated on video
Dell’s Adamo ‘crazyhinge’ XPS demonstrated on video
So, Dell finally revealed just exactly what was going on with its ultrathin Adamo XPS — to an extent, anyway — but there’s always room for a little more detail, and that’s where the folks at Zive Computer come in. This lovingly filmed video of theirs shows off all the physical intricacies of the XPS, the hinge in action from multiple angles, and even a bit of pretend typing on that odd-looking keyboard. Sure, we’re still in the dark on plenty of specs, but we’ve already gathered enough on this thing to make it clear it’s unlike anything else on the market. Hit up the read link for the vid.

Dell reveals new Adamo XPS, gives no details
Dell reveals new Adamo XPS, gives no details

We’re currently live at a Dell event where that totally new-look Adamo XPS has just been briefly teased. In keeping with Dell’s recent tradition, details are nonexistent at the moment, but we’ve snapped a couple pics — if you look closely you can see a pretty wild hinge design. We’ll update you ASAP, keep it locked!
Update: And… that was it. Seriously, you would think Dell would’ve maybe learned something from the original Adamo launch and maybe dished out some info, but as usual they just waved it around for a second and then talked about less-interesting things. Still, here’s what we know — it’s super thin, and it obviously unfolds in a completely new way. We’re digging for more, we’ll let you know.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXXII: Nokla strikes again with E81 rehash
Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXXII: Nokla strikes again with E81 rehash
Due to Nokia’s continued dismissal of the ripe-for-the-picking E81 model number, the diligent folks at “Nokla” (fresh off their E97 design win) have seen it fit to issue a second handset under that fake moniker. Surprisingly, this one actually boasts a rather unique swivel design, a QWERTY keyboard and some decent specs. There’s even a mirror on the swivel-up back (we hear that women love mirrors), along with a hole at the swivel hinge for working a lanyard through. We’d venture to say it’s the best E81 Nokia never made.
