ASUS Eee PC 1201N Ion-based Seashell ready for $500 Amazon pre-order
ASUS Eee PC 1201N Ion-based Seashell ready for $500 Amazon pre-order
It’s a bit later than the mid-December target heard previously, but ASUS’ 12-inch Ion-packing Eee PC 1201n is up for pre-order with an anticipated January 15 release. A penny short of $500 takes home a dual-core N330 processor clocking 1.6GHz on the Atomic clock, 2GB of DDR2 memory with room to expand to 8GB, a 250GB 5,400 RPM hard disk, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi, webcam, and fancy new 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium OS — none of that Starter Edition netbook nonsense. Here’s the rub: are you really going to pull the trigger for a legacy Diamondville-class Atom lappie now knowing that the big CES event in January will likely be flooded with Intel’s latest Pineview-class machines sporting new N450 Atom processors, of which, at least a few will offer HD video acceleration? Pre-order now if you want but we’d wait until January 11th to see what might get announced.
[Thanks, Luke F.]

Toshiba’s 1.8-inch 160GB PATA disk is ready for KIRFers
Toshiba’s 1.8-inch 160GB PATA disk is ready for KIRFers
Wonder what’s inside the latest iPod classic besides suave marketing and Pixi-dust? In a not-so coincidental announcement following yesterday’s classic capacity bump, Toshiba unleashed specs on its newest 160GB 1.8-inch single-platter spinner that just happens to come in 120GB versions too. The Parallel ATA interface holds-tight the 5-mm / 48-gram disk spinning at 4,200 RPM. Interestingly enough, Tosh claims that its hard disk holds 45,000 digital photos, 42,000 songs, or 130 videos thereby besting Apple’s claims on all counts. So get to it KIRFers, the MKxx34GAL series is shipping now and your marketing bullets have already been written.

Dyson speeds up ‘world’s fastest motor,’ gives it some fancy packaging
Dyson speeds up ‘world’s fastest motor,’ gives it some fancy packaging
Sir James Dyson is on a mission to tick as many boxes as possible with the hetero male demographic. He starts out well, bolting the “world’s fastest motor” to a gun-shaped instrument of cleanliness. The product pages advertise 10 minutes of “high constant suction,” and the top model is named the Animal, but the fact is it’s still a vacuum cleaner. The motor is a direct descendant of the one found in the Airblade, with rotational speed jumping from 88K to 104K RPM. Dyson has said he hopes to harness the technology in other devices, including electric cars, giving credence to previously discredited rumors to that effect. Beyond the read link you will find a picture of the tiny speed demon in the loving hands of its inventor.
