Steve Ballmer teases new Xbox 360 form factors, price points and options

Steve Ballmer teases new Xbox 360 form factors, price points and options

Turns out Steve Ballmer’s talk up at the University of Washington delivered even more saucy info than we were initially led to believe. In a transcript of the subsequent Q&A session, Steve is shown to have delivered the following statement on the topic of large-screen televisions and Microsoft’s related hardware strategy:

For that big screen device … there’s no diversity. You get exactly the Xboxes that we build for you. We may have more form factors in the future that are designed for various price points and options, but we think it’s going to [be] important.

It’s safe to assume new form factors point to a smaller rather than larger 360 chassis, though the price points and further options he mentions are wide open for speculation. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to forecast Microsoft pushing out its own slimmed-down console to match up with Sony’s PS3 Slim, but we also shouldn’t discount the idea of an Xbox 360 with Project Natal hardware integrated into its shell. In other words, we really don’t know what Steve has going on under that shiny dome of his, we just hope it’s as exciting as he makes it sound.

This message currently graces every page on Engadget. Not sure what they’re up to, but it’s promised to be “awesome awesome stuff,” editor-in-chief Joshua Topolsky tweets.

In fact, beyond the in your face teaser promising that, “What’s next is coming now. Stay close.”, Topolsky has been tweeting teasers all night. So Techmeme founder Gabe Rivera decided to respond (below):

Not ones to be left out of a super awesome please-refresh-our-page-every-5-seconds-party, we have a page of our own now (below):

(And before we start an Internet flame war, we’re just having some good clean fun with our friends at Engadget. We too are interested to see what their surprise is.)

Cowon teases iAudio 9 portable media player, waits for a reaction

Cowon teases iAudio 9 portable media player, waits for a reaction

It seems that the above pictured splash page has since been removed from Cowon’s website, but given the outfit’s long, long history of teasing products before they’re actually introduced, we’ll give ‘em the benefit of the doubt here. Reportedly, the decidedly ho hum looking media player will ship with a 2-inch LCD, built-in FM tuner, a microphone, TV output, internal speaker and support for plenty of formats. As of now, storage capacities and pricing remains a mystery, but we’re certain Cowon will be clearing that up in short order. Ahem.

Lenovo teases IdeaCentre Q100 / Q110 nettops, D400 home server

Lenovo teases IdeaCentre Q100 / Q110 nettops, D400 home server

There’s not a lot to go on here, but Lenovo’s official Twitter account posted pictures of two products that are purportedly being revealed in more detail later this week. The IdeaCentre Q100 / Q110 nettops are said to be “some of the thinnest nettops in the world,” and while the teaser image is certainly a looker, for better and for worse we can already smell the Atom processor from here. Also on the menu is the IdeaCentre D400, the company’s first home server. We Got Served did a little digging, and as it turns out, the D400 was released in Asia at the beginning of this month, with four hot swappable bays, four USB ports, and an eSATA port. It’d be nice to know when this week Lenovo was planning to lift the veil of secrecy, but at least we won’t be worrying about it come Saturday.

Nokia 5800i XpressMusic hits the FCC: it’s like the 5800, only less so

Nokia 5800i XpressMusic hits the FCC: it’s like the 5800, only less so

Over the years we’ve found that usually, when a company takes a model number and slaps an extra letter on the end of it, there’s some sort of feature or update they’re highlighting. iPhone 3GS? That one’s easy: “speed.” But if we’re reading this FCC business correctly, Nokia’s new 5800i XpressMusic handset apparently differs little from its older sibling — save for the fact that they’ve removed that pesky WiFi antenna from the thing. Because, really, what would you do with all that connectivity, anyways? Also, while still sporting a 3 megapixel camera, those specs are listed as a 4.6mm on the new handset (the original is 3.7mm). As GSM Arena has pointed out, this could be due to either a narrower field of view or a larger sensor — probably the latter. Not too much more info here, but if you’re morbidly curious, please feel free to check out the gallery below. It’s a blast.
