T-Mobile invites us to ‘come experience the HTC HD2′ on March 16; release on the 24th? (update: or 23rd!)

Like clockwork, we’ve just been dropped a line by T-Mobile USA asking us to join them for a very special media event to check out the HTC HD2 — “a larger than life entertainment powerhouse” — in fabulous New York City on the evening of March 16. That lines up nicely with the company’s earlier assurances that we’d see a launch in March — but what day in March, exactly? Well, we’re hearing from a number of tipsters (including trusted sources) that the 24th is the day this thing breaks loose at retail, so set your watches and calendars accordingly — assuming you haven’t been wooed into Windows Phone 7 Series’ tender, loving grasp, that is.
Update: MobiTV — which has an app bundled with T-Mobile’s version of the HD2 — says the HD2 is launching on the 23rd, and frankly, they’re probably in a position to know. Thanks, Stephen!

Zune 4.2 update released, what’s new?
Zune 4.2 update released, what’s new?

We’re receiving word from multiple early-bird readers indicating that they’ve received the 4.2 update on their Zunes and that, now that they’re out of that nasty maintenance window, all is right with the world. That said, our tipsters are not spotting any major differences, and neither are we, certainly nothing as exciting as 4.3 brought to the Zune HD. What about you? Have you been granted access to 4.2 yet? If so, let us know in comments if you’ve found anything fresh and exciting. And, if you haven’t, feel free to discuss the weather — it sure has been a little crazy ’round these parts lately.
[Thanks, Brent R. and Bryan]

BlackBerry Internet Service stricken with global outages?
BlackBerry Internet Service stricken with global outages?
Looks like BlackBerry Internet Services is having a rough night, with a number of sites reporting it being down not just in North America, but also elsewhere around the world. A handful of tipsters have expressed similar issues, and though we’ve had some weirdness with our service tonight, it seems to be working well enough. So tell us, how’s BIS doing for you tonight?

Microsoft store opening October 22nd, insides revealed?
Microsoft store opening October 22nd, insides revealed?

Imagine for a second that you’re Microsoft. Unimaginably rich, a bit bloated after years on the Office hog, and worried about a few big projects you’ve been meaning to finish if only you could find the time. So what day would you choose to launch your brick-and-mortar stores back into retail if you were Microsoft’s David Porter, vice president of retail stores and former Wal-Mart exec? If it was us, we’d choose October 22nd, the official Windows 7 launch. That’s exactly what a number of tipsters are telling us courtesy of an in-person briefing by Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s COO. Specifically, the Scottsdale store will swing the doors wide on the 22nd, we’re not sure about the Mission Viejo location. According the Wall Street Journal, the stores will sell Windows-based laptops and cellphones and allow consumers to play Xbox 360 games on a 94-inch in-store screen. It’ll even have a Genius Bar “counter” where people can bring their Microsoft gear for help. In fact, the WSJ claims that the Scottsdale store interior is a “nearly exact replica” of the store created on Redmond’s campus — something we covered back in January (pics in the gallery below). Who knows, this could be the beginning of www.peopleofmicrosftstore.com as Internet trends go.
